What Is the Brazil eVisa?
The Brazil eVisa is an electronic visitor visa for Australian, Canadian, and American passport holders traveling to Brazil for tourism or business. As of April 10, 2025, the Brazilian government reinstated a visa requirement for these three nationalities. The application is submitted entirely online, and there is no need to visit a consulate, book an appointment, or mail your passport.
Once approved, your eVisa is sent to you by email as a PDF. It is linked electronically to your passport, so no stamp or label is added to your travel document. This guide covers who needs an eVisa, what documents to prepare, how to apply, what it costs, and what to know once you arrive.
Who Needs a Brazil eVisa?
The eVisa is available exclusively to passport holders from Australia, Canada, and the United States. Citizens of other nationalities who require a visa must apply in person through a Brazilian consulate.
If you hold a valid physical visitor visa for Brazil that was issued before April 10, 2025, you do not need to apply for a new eVisa. Your existing visa remains valid.
Brazilian dual citizens are not eligible for the eVisa. If you hold Brazilian citizenship alongside another nationality, you must travel on a valid Brazilian passport regardless.
The eVisa covers the following purposes of travel:
Tourism
Business (attending meetings, trade fairs, or exploring business opportunities)
Transit
It does not authorize paid work or study in Brazil. For longer stays or other purposes, you must apply for the appropriate visa through a Brazilian consulate.
eVisa Conditions and Length of Stay
The Brazil eVisa is a multiple-entry visa valid for 5 years. Each visit to Brazil is limited to a maximum stay of 90 days, and your total time in Brazil across all visits cannot exceed 180 days within any 12-month period, counted from the date of your first entry.
Note: If your passport expires before the 5-year period ends, your eVisa validity will be capped at your passport's expiry date rather than the full 5 years.
If you need more time in Brazil during your visit, you can apply for an extension of up to 90 additional days through the Brazilian Federal Police before your initial authorized stay expires. Extensions are granted at the discretion of immigration authorities.

Documents You'll Need to Prepare
Have everything ready before you start your application.
Valid passport: Must be signed and valid for the entire duration of your trip to Brazil, with at least 2 blank visa pages available. There is no minimum passport validity period required beyond the length of your stay.
Passport-style photo: Digital format, 2" x 2", white background, front-facing.
Proof of travel itinerary: Flight booking confirmation showing your planned entry into and exit from Brazil.
Proof of funds: Bank statements from the past 30 days showing a minimum balance of $2,000.
Additional Documents for Minors (Under 18)
Applicants under 18 must also submit:
Original birth certificate, plus one copy
Authorization for Issuance of Brazilian Visa for a Minor, signed by both parents or legal guardians
For children of Brazilian parent(s): a signed Declaração de Não-Cidadania (Declaration of Non-Citizenship), confirming the child does not hold Brazilian nationality
If only one parent is listed on the birth certificate: only that parent's signature is required
If one parent has sole custody: a notarized copy of the court order granting sole custody must be provided
If one parent is deceased: a death certificate must be provided
Copy of passports or photo IDs for both parents

Step-by-Step Application Process
The entire application is completed online. There is no in-person or paper option for the eVisa.
Step 1: Complete the application form
Go to brazil.vfsevisa.com, the official Brazilian government-authorized platform operated by VFS Global. Create an account, then fill in your personal details, passport information, travel purpose, and intended travel dates. All information must match your passport exactly. Any discrepancy will invalidate your eVisa and require a new application and fee.
Step 2: Upload your documents and pay
Attach your passport photo, a scan of your passport's identification page, and your flight confirmation. Make sure everything is clearly legible. The fee is $80.90, paid online at submission, and non-refundable regardless of the outcome.
Step 3: Wait for a decision
Processing typically takes 2 to 5 business days. Apply at least 2 weeks before your travel date to account for any delays. You can track your application status on the VFS Global portal. If additional documents are requested and you do not provide them within 10 to 15 days, your application will be denied, and you will need to start over.
Step 4: Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, your eVisa will be sent to you by email as a PDF. Print a physical copy to carry when you travel and keep a digital backup on your phone. Present this document to Brazilian immigration authorities upon arrival. It will not be stamped in your passport.
If Your eVisa Is Denied
If your application is denied, you cannot appeal through the eVisa portal. You will need to apply for a consular visitor visa directly through the nearest Brazilian embassy or consulate.
After You Arrive
Upon arrival, Brazilian border authorities will verify your eVisa and passport. Have your printed eVisa or a clear digital copy ready alongside your passport.
A few practical notes for your stay:
You cannot work for pay on a tourist or business eVisa. Paid employment requires a separate work visa.
You cannot change your visa status from inside Brazil. If you need a different visa type, you will need to leave Brazil and apply through a consulate.
Costs and Fees to Expect
The eVisa application fee is $80.90, paid online at the time of submission.
